Microcement Defects

Main Errors in Microcement

Microcement is a material that can be in perfect condition for many years, coating our homes naturally. But it is also a material that needs meticulous application using the best materials. If not, within a few months of use, defects can begin to flourish that are costly and difficult to repair.

In this post we are going to look at the most common mistakes that less experienced microcement applicators make.

Drying Times

It is possibly one of the biggest sources of defects in microcement. Not respecting the drying times can lead to many problems since the layers will not be able to cure properly. This will cause the hardness achieved to not reach the predetermined values.

It must be taken into account that each layer prevents the moisture of the previous layer from evaporating, this could cause not only less resistance but also the appearance of stains. From Lunik we warmly recommend respecting our installation instructions.

Environmental Conditions

Another source of problems in the application of microcement is not taking environmental conditions into account. At higher humidity, drying times increase, and therefore we must take this into account to avoid surprises of poor surface curing.

Low Quality Material

At Lunik we recommend the use of a material that is widely tested and offers the best guarantees of success. The material must dry in the defined times, not de-tone and have a resistance that allows a normal life. ONEROCK is also totally waterproof and has a high resistance to abrasion.

Make a Bad Support Read

Not making a good reading of the support is a failure that always ends badly. The support must always be prepared so that it is suitable for the application of microcement. Any problem in this support, and it will inevitably carry over to the microcement. Remember that the microcement is only 3mm thick, so it will not be able to absorb the problems of the previous layers.

Thin Layers

The microcement must dry well for the material to cure and acquire its mechanical properties. One of the big mistakes is to think that the thicker the layer, the more it will hold. It is totally false, since it can cause that it does not dry well and that the base is softened.
