Plasterboard and Microcement: Great Result

PLASTERBOARD AND MICROCEMENT – Plasterboard, a technical building material, has become increasingly popular in recent decades due to its lightweight, maneuverability, and notable insulating properties. It is capable of soundproofing, has a high resistance to fire, and is easy to install, leaving very little mess in the process. That is why it has been widely used in interior renovations and decoration, both in homes and commercial premises.

Today, the combination of plasterboard and microcement has become a very popular option due to the growing importance of life inside the home. The possibility of creating joint-free surfaces has convinced many architects of its success, and the application of microcement on plasterboard has become a trend in constant growth.

However, it is important to note that each surface has a different absorption rate and that of plasterboard is usually relatively high. This can result in different tones of microcement depending on the installation conditions. Therefore, it is essential to have experience in its application and to respect the installation guidelines to ensure a uniform and quality result.

To homogenize the absorption of the different surfaces, it is necessary to treat the surface with an epoxy primer. An acrylic bonding bridge is not sufficient to prevent these absorption differences and can result in unwanted stains or marking the joints between the different panels. Therefore, we recommend using an epoxy primer to equalize the different absorptions and avoid marks ruining the final finish.

If the surface is entirely plasterboard, two base layers can be saved and one or two layers of ONEROCK S or M can be applied directly, resulting in significant time and cost savings. However, it is important to note that the plasterboard panels must be fully taped and the screws filled before applying the microcement to avoid absorption problems.

In bathroom areas, it is recommended to use moisture-resistant plasterboard, which is usually green in color. To avoid tonality problems, it is advisable to use a colored base (L or XL) or a white epoxy paint to homogenize all plasterboard surfaces.
