Sand Pool Construction Process SANDPOOL
Preparation on concrete or gunite support
With WATERSTOP 2C, only two layers are enough without the need for mesh, to achieve total watertightness against the direct pressure of water on the walls. In addition, an elastic membrane is formed that is ideal for receiving the sand coating.
Preparation on mosaic tiles
Depending on the state of the mosaic tiles, it will be decided whether to remove it or cover it with WATERSTOP 2C waterproofing mortar. If it is not removed, the first coat of WATERSTOP 2C will be applied with mesh. A second coat will then be applied.
Application
Mix Comp. A and Comp. B using a mechanical stirrer on a clean container with a minimum capacity of 25 Lts. When the mixture is homogeneous, add the aggregate without stopping stirring.
SANDPOOL mortar is applied using a flat trowel or a stainless steel trowel, spreading it manually to a thickness of 5 mm until a smooth, compact and uneven surface is achieved. Material consumption varies according to the type of support but in general, it is estimated at 6-7 Kg/m2.
On the vertical walls of the pool, it is recommended to apply the mortar from bottom to top, while on horizontal surfaces the levelling of the floor should be followed.
It is important to smooth and go over the mortar shortly after its application, using a clean trowel slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol to prevent the material from adhering and dragging.
To ensure a continuous and uniform finish, masking tape can be used to pre-divide the different application areas. The coating is mounted on part of the adhesive tape and removed before it dries completely, which helps to obtain straight lines and minimise joints. The tape is then reapplied on the edge of the already coated, dry and compacted area.
It is important to avoid applying the mortar during the hottest hours of the day, in full sun or when rain is forecast. Material consumption and application conditions must be carefully monitored.
Sealing
To make the SANDPOOL coating easier to clean, it is recommended to seal it with two coats of VARNISH DSV applied with a roller. This is necessary due to the granulometric nature of the coating, which has a slight roughness. VARNISH DSV protects the coating against water, atmospheric agents and diluted chlorine in swimming pools.
